ABOUT THE FILM

Although the title suggests that the faces and places of rural France are the focus of this film, its biggest treat is the unlikely, hilarious and perceptive relationship between artists Agnes Varda and JR. Earthy, tiny, octogenarian Agnes and tall, witty young JR tease, charm and inspire each other (and us) as they go on the quintessential road trip. Combining Agnes’s film work and JR’s murals, they celebrate local townspeople by listening to their stories and creating surprisingly profound giant murals of their faces on significant structures. Faces Places has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary.
