Salt Spring Film Festival
The Salt Spring Film Festival Society is a non-profit charitable society incorporated in 2008, whose mission is to educate, inspire and activate our community through a Festival of independent documentary film from Canada and around the world. We present films that explore social justice, the environment, art and culture, politics, food security and more.
The next Salt Spring Film Festival returns February 26–28, 2027.
Salt Spring Film Festival Presents brings high-profile documentaries fresh from the international festival circuit straight to our community.
October Feature: Derek vs Derek

On a country road in Devon, England, live two implacably opposed neighbouring farmers, both called Derek. One believes in intensive farming, the other is giving his entire farm over to nature. As tempers fray, wild animals escape, and the land is transformed, the film charts the two Derek’s often funny, turbulent relationship.
Presented in collaboration with the Salt Spring Island Conservancy.
We invite you to join us following the screening for a post-film discussion hosted by the Conservancy, exploring local conservation issues that resonate with those raised in the documentary.
