ABOUT THE FILM
When Mexican drug cartels and Chinese traffickers conspire to poach the Gulf of California’s rare totoaba in pursuit of its swim bladder – known as “aquatic cocaine” for the outrageous prices it fetches in China – their deadly methods threaten to destroy the region’s entire marine ecosystem, including the vaquita porpoise, the world’s smallest and most endangered whale species. Investigative journalists, scientists, environmentalists and undercover agents launch a daring mission involving the Mexican Navy to save the vaquita and bring an international crime syndicate to justice. This breathless real-life thriller won Audience Awards at Sundance and New Jersey’s Lighthouse International Film Festival.
