ABOUT THE FILM

Why are Indigenous women so much more at risk than other Canadians of being assaulted and murdered? According to the RCMP, missing and murdered Indigenous women number close to 1200 – which many believe to be grossly underestimated. How can this shameful epidemic of gendered violence persist here in Canada, which imagines itself to be a model for human rights? Humanizing the appallingly brutal statistics by juxtaposing heart-wrenching stories of the victims of femicide with personal testimonies of Indigenous activists and survivors, this searing indictment of systemic failure was named Best Social or Political Documentary Program at the Canadian Screen Awards.

Advisory: disturbing subject matter.
