ABOUT THE FILM

This is the incredible story of three young women whose performance of a “punk prayer” inside Russia’s main cathedral led to their arrest on charges of religious hatred and a trial that reverberated around the world, transforming Russian society. Through interviews with band members, family and the defense team, the film looks at the real women behind their famous colourful balaclavas and highlights the forces that transformed them from playful political activists to modern-day icons. The story of Pussy Riot is about politics, religion, national identity, gender equality, the nature of freedom and the enduring power of punk rock.
