ABOUT THE FILM

The Grenada Chocolate Factory is the brainchild of Mott Green and his partners Doug and Edmond. Inspired by Mott’s love of chocolate tea and social equality, the world’s smallest chocolate factory is a cooperative empowering cocoa farmers. Mott shows us the fascinating transformation of organic cocoa beans into high quality chocolate, using ingenuity, quirky machinery, and loving care. In contrast, we learn how the “food of the gods” has become big business, exploiting West African child labour and slavery. The challenges of farmers like Nelice, complexities of distribution and surprising perils of fair trade designation deepen our understanding. Narrated by Susan Sarandon.
