Providing a rare and powerful glimpse into Haida culture, the film begins on the island shores of Haida Gwaii. Two extended families reunite at their annual summer fishing camp for celebrations and family time. However conflict between the charismatic young man, Adiits’ii, and his friend Kwa brews after tragedy strikes and begins to tear their interwoven families apart.
Kwa's wife, Hlaaya, intuits that Adiits'ii's reckless choices could bring harm to their family and indeed it does. Wracked with grief and shame, Adiits’ii flees deep into the rainforest and descends into madness transforming into a Gaagiixid, the legendary Haida Wildman. Sgaawaay K'unna (Edge of the Knife ) is a stunning cinematic achievement and a spellbinding tale of pride, tragedy, revenge and remorse set in Haida Gwaii in the 1800s.
