Peter Raymont, Michele Hozer, Canada, 2011, 96 mins
Filmed in Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay, Toronto and Seattle, West Wind is a portrait of Tom Thomson as a young, developing artist. It's as beautiful to look at as Thomson’s own work, with some of the scenes taking us back to specific spots where he found his inspiration. Remarkable archival recordings and written memories of those who knew the man include A.Y. Jackson, J.E.H. MacDonald, Fred Varley and Lawren Harris. A number of Thomson’s works featured in the film are from private collections and are seen here publicly for the first time.
