Two Spirits

Interweaves the story of a mother’s loss of her son with a revealing look at a time when the world wasn’t simply divided into male and female and many of America’s indigenous cultures held places of honour for integrated genders. Fred Martinez was “nádleehí” a young male-bodied person with a feminine nature, a special gift according to his ancient Navajo culture. Despite the tragic loss, the story is one of unconditional parental love, community support and hope for change in a small town.
