The Salt Spring Film Festival takes place on the first weekend in March. The 14th festival is March 1st-3rd 2013. We begin with the Friday Night Opening Gala and continue with two full screening days on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival takes place at Gulf Islands Secondary School (GISS), 112 Rainbow Road, Salt Spring Island, BC, V8K 2K3.
The festival guide will be published in the Driftwood on Wednesday February 20th, with details also on our website, on our Facebook page, on our Twitter feed and on the Salt Spring Exchange.
At the festival weekend we show a feast of documentaries. You'll see films that bring the issues of our time to life. Films about food, art and music from India to our own back yard; social justice issues from Alberta to Iran; and inspiring films about the environment and human rights.
During the year we also bring you the "best of the fest international film series". These are the very best independent films from festivals around the world. The films shown are usually feature films and on occasion an award-winning documentary.
We are a unique film festival: admission is, and always has been, by donation. This ensures that everyone is welcome and no one is turned away. If you can, please give generously, so that we are able to continue this tradition, help to support the filmmakers and continue to organize and operate the festival for many years to come. Our festival is very popular - and because there are no advance ticket sales, it's best to arrive in plenty of time for the films you wish to see in order to get a seat.
Saturday and Sunday films continue throughout the day beginning at 10am. Please remember to arrive in plenty of time for the films that you wish to see in order to get a seat. Our programme of films will be finalized shortly.
Doors open for the Gala at 6pm when delicious dinners and desserts are available with live music entertainment. Opening ceremonies and the featured film start at 7:30pm. The Friday night menu will be posted on our home page and Facebook closer to the festival. As with the Festival weekend, entrance to the gala is by donation.
We welcome film submissions, and there is no fee for sending your film for consideration. All DVD (NTSC preferred) or online links must be received by October 15th for the following year's festival. Please mail DVDs to: Salt Spring Film Festival Society, PO Box 741, Ganges, Salt Spring Island, BC, V8K 2W3, Canada. Online links should be emailed to submissions@saltspringfilmfestival.com
During the festival weekend we rely on over 80 volunteers in a variety of roles, including reception and hospitality desk, set-up and take-down, decor and signage, projectionist, hall monitor, food service and social justice bazaar.
